NAMING THINGS - Part 2
/Psychologists tell us that naming things is important. When emotions overwhelm us, we are supposed to stop and name what we are feeling. For me personally, that's harder than it sounds. It’s like trying to read street signs looking out the window of a speeding train. Nevertheless, I agree, names are important.
This past week I participated in a children’s camp. The first day I was assigned to a small group. The children made no eye contact with me and didn’t pay any attention to my overtures of friendship. After the leader asked me to share something about myself, one of the children asked my name. Knowing my name broke the ice. I marveled at the change in the atmosphere. Two girls even snuggled up close to me. Although I didn't interact with all 34 children that made up the larger group, I knew it was important to learn their names, too.
How do you feel when someone calls you by name?
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them" Matthew 18:20.
