NAMING THINGS - Part 1
/“So the Lord God formed from the soil every kind of animal and bird. He brought them to Adam to see what he would call them, and Adam chose a name for each one” (Genesis 2:19).
My head has been full of crazy ideas lately. I've been thinking it’s time to write a memoir, not a full-length autobiography, just a “slice of life” as the experts say. Once an idea takes hold of you like a boa constrictor—I wonder how Adam came up with that name?—there's no turning back.
And after I write the book, I will need some way to let the world know “the baby has been born,” so I have been thinking about designing a new website, too. Well, not just thinking about it. I’ve started but the process is slow. I like the challenge of arranging things, choosing photographs, “filling in the blanks,” and all the faux creativity that goes along with it.
Using a template to set up my website reminds me of the old “paint-by-numbers” kits from the 1960s, except a template is a lot more sophisticated. Sad to say, after three months of trial and error, I had to contact the first website hosting company I signed with to ask for a refund—their program was beyond my abilities. Much to my surprise, the refund was sent, no questions asked. One look at my feeble attempt probably convinced them. Lesson learned: Don’t count your chickens until they’re hatched. Be realistic about what you can and cannot do.
Now I have another problem. I have, not one, but two “babies” (a new website under development and the yet unborn book) and babies need to be named. I’ve picked out several names for the website related to “slova” which means “word” in Russian. My thought was to focus on words, quotes, reviews of books I wish I’d written, a blog, a home for eventual books still locked up in the deep recesses of who knows where, …but thoughts about “TRAVEL” keep crowding my space. Finding a name and a cohesive theme for the site is becoming more complicated.
In the meantime, while I am sorting this all out, is there anything in your life that needs naming? If you figure out an easy way to do it, please let me know!
And I thought I had problems!
