THE DEMON OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Lord, help me get rid of this pride, this “Demon of self-sufficiency.” While our culture thrives on self-sufficiency, beware. It can be a form of self-sabotage.  Most of us want to appear to be self-sufficient so that people will see us as capable and valuable. In the end, our effort to put ourselves in a "good light," in whatever form it takes, more often pushes people away.  Sad…but there is hope.

The good news is that in God's eyes, the opposite of prideful self-sufficiency is NOT "needy" or "helpless."  It is a humble heart ready to embrace the grace and love of God.  

Lord, I thank you that your mercies are new every morning, that your love is everlasting, and that your grace is always sufficient!
