WHO IS YOUR ELIJAH?

Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha...saw him no more (2 Kings 2:11-12).

Yesterday I was looking at some photos taken at a recent summer camp for orphans and children from broken families.  One photo of two children arm wrestling especially caught my attention.

Growing up in a household without a father, God gave me two "Elijahs" (and several others later on). Although I only saw them every two or three years, my two uncles were the "shining stars" in my less than heavenly childhood. While my wise and practical Uncle Lester taught me about "life," my Uncle Benny was my "grownup" playmate.  He taught me how to arm wrestle. That may not merit them "Elijah" status in the true biblical sense, but God knew what I needed at the time.

I am so grateful for the people God has put in my life, now and in the past, some of them "giant Elijahs" who have shared their faith and wisdom in ways I could never have learned on my own.

Who is your Elijah?

Lord, I pray for the children who attended this camp, and others like them, that you would give each one of them an "Elijah" to help them grow in their relationship with you. Amen.
