Please Hold!

A few years ago, there was a story floating around called “God’s Answering Machine.” Callers were instructed to press 1 for requests, 2 for thanksgiving, etc. Then there was the inevitable “All of the angels are helping other customers right now. Please stay on the line. Your call will be answered in the order it was received.” How many eons would it take for the next angel to pick up my call? I'm glad we have a direct line to Jesus!

This morning I was responding to a friend’s prayer request for her husband who needs physical healing. I wanted to close my email to her with a verse from Psalm 139, so I went to an online Bible site and found the verse I was looking for.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made (v. 14).

I read a few verses past the verse I had selected and then switched back to writing my friend, thinking I’ll come back and finish reading the psalm when I can fully put my attention to it.

What if God treated me this way? “Well, I’ve got Pat’s arms and legs on her body. I’ll have to come back later to implant her heart when I have time to really focus on all the plans I have for her.”

How often do I put God off saying, “I’ll just throw in a load of clothes in the washing machine; then I’ll sit down and read my Bible” or “I’ll just finish answering these emails; then I’ll focus on a quiet time with Jesus”?

Oh, Lord, help me get my priorities straight! You deserve my best and utmost!
