PLETHORA
/Last week someone sent me a link to a YouTube video called, “Would Jesus Wear a Rolex?” While the video points fingers at ostentatious preachers, it is also a good example of the excessive nature in our culture. That’s scary because all this overabundance is costing us money and managing “our stuff” is a huge time waster. Most important, it can tempt us to forget God.
When you have eaten your fill in this land, be careful not to forget the LORD who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt (Deut. 6:11-12).
I get caught in this trap working at my desk. I have a plethora of electronic equipment. Besides my mobile “smart” phone and U.S. cell phone, I have a computer, a laptop and a tablet for travel, a printer, two flash drives, several passport drives, at least two “clouds”, and access to two backup hard drives. Keeping track of all my files and backups is crazy! I need to simplify the process. Maybe I should go back to using a typewriter!
I bet if I asked God, “Is there is a better way to use my time?” He would tell me.
Lord, we thank you because we know that every good and perfect gift comes from You. May we always keep our hearts focused on the Giver and not get tangled up with the gifts or the toys of our own making.
