JUST ONE WORD
/A devotional showed up in my inbox this morning entitled, “Change Your Life with Just One Word.”* I like words and the simplicity of “one word” appealed to me. Intrigued, single words started popping into my head. The author, Mike Ashcraft, enumerated a long list of all the ways he was suppose to get his life in order according to a morning news show. It left him feeling overwhelmed and defeated. Over time he discovered that it was much better to choose “one word” for the year instead of trying to change everything about his life and end up doing nothing.
Here are some words that came to my mind for 2014:
- move (a much kinder word than exercise!)
- joy
- peace
- obedience
- now (as in do it now!)
While all of these words have merit and can be supported by scripture, I chose the word “yes” (as in "yes" to the Lord) because, for me, it signifies a change of heart. This “yes” will help me pay closer attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Saying "yes" may mean saying “no” to someone or something. I like the word “yes” because it helps me keep my focus on the Lord and it reminds me that the first "yes" was spoken by Him.
For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him (2 Cor. 1:20).
What is your “one word” for 2014?
