THE "REAL" DEAL

Recently, I listened to a video discussion about the word “discernment” which broadened my understanding. Previously, I understood it to mean the ability to judge between good and evil.  Some sources define discernment as “judging well” or having “a perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding,” but the following story shed new light on its meaning, at least for me.

During the video discussion, one woman shared how she had worked at a bank handling millions of dollars. To guard against accepting counterfeit bills, employees were NOT told to look for the “bad” bills. They were told to study the authentic bills. Because they became familiar with the “real” bills, the counterfeit bills did not pass inspection.*

Do you need wisdom? Do you need understanding and direction? Go to the authentic source, the Word of God. Study it day and night. Get the “real deal.”

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105)
